Why Does Grace Bible Church Exist?

GBC's Mission

The SLT (Strategic Leadership Team) had its second meeting this past weekend. I would like to tell you it was all warm, fuzzy moments followed by everyone holding hands and singing Kumbayah; but that would be far from the truth. In reality, it was 13 people asking God to speak to us...and He did. However, it should be noted, when we ask God to speak to us He is going to reveal what we need to hear not what we want to hear. What we learned over the weekend both encouraged us and alarmed us. Let me see if I can summarize it for you.

We started our weekend by asking God to show us why Grace is here. What is His purpose for us? Why are we here at this time and in this place? We looked at several passages of Scripture, we prayed, and we shared our thoughts with each other. All along the way we experienced the Holy Spirit leading us and felt the encouragement of those on the Prayer Ministry Team lifting us up. When the dust settled, God had answered our question. Below is our mission...our purpose...the reason Grace Bible Church exists:

Over the next couple of weeks we will develop an image that expresses this statement in an easy and attractive way. But until that comes, let me share with you some observations about this statement:

  • It easily answers the question "Why are we here?"
  • It is easy to remember.
  • It is easy to understand.
  • It tells us what we are to do.
  • It exalts Jesus.

From now on when someone asks me what we are doing at Grace, I have my answer. So do you. We now know why God has placed Grace Bible Church in New Franklin, OH.

The rest of our weekend focused on discovering Grace's core values...the things we treasure and hold dear to our hearts. We asked the Lord to show us what is important to us and what is important to Him. We wanted to know if what we valued is what He valued. It is here that God revealed to us some things that saddened our hearts. We discovered that some of our values are not what God wants. This was a no brainer...we agreed with Him and repented. However, He also revealed He has some values that were not even on our radar. They are basic values of the faith, but we began to see they were not a part of our values at all.

I know you want to know what these values are, but honestly, the team is not yet ready to share them. We have to find the best way to own what has been shown to us and then share it. Over the next few weeks we will be working diligently at this. Please keep praying for us.

I can share with you the values that did line up...the values we hold dear and God approves (discovering these values and having them affirmed by God was like getting a "high-five" from our Heavenly Father). We discovered...

  • We value sound, Biblical instruction that exalts Jesus.
  • We value fellowship. Brothers and sisters in Christ doing life together.
  • We value service. People serving Christ by serving others.
  • We value worship. People exalting Christ in the lifestyle.

Over the next few weeks we will continue to develop these core values. Our goal is to be able to communicate them easily and efficiently. Hopefully, you are getting the idea of what we are trying to do. I encourage you to read through the presentations and notes from the weekend. You can find them by clicking here
