Summer Electives: Part 3

My grandmother was 4 feet and 11 inches tall. I have many fond memories of spending summers at her house. One such memory was the smell of breakfast each morning (she always home-made biscuts and sausage gravy). This was a treat because most my breakfast meals came from a box when I was growing up. I remember watching her prepare breakfast in the kitchen and there was one tool she always kept close...her footstool. If she needed to reach anything that her short stature would not allow her to grab, she used her footstool. It had 3 legs and allowed her to reach heights that would have otherwise been impossible (I'm certain the breakfast would have suffered).

Following Christ properly requires three things: 1) Participate in public worship and a small group bible study 2) Volunteer in a ministry that serves others and 3) Be generous with your finances, time, and skills. These three activities are like the 3 legs on a footstool. Neglect one of them, and you are bound to your normal circumstances.

During the Summer months it is easy to neglect one or all three of the "legs" on our faith footstool. The last couple of posts have been encouraging you to join an elective (small group bible study) for the summer. Here are the last two electives being offered:

The book of Proverbs uncovers the foundation of wisdom, marks out the paths that make us wise, and points us to the ultimate source of all true understanding: Jesus Christ. This elective, facilitated by Dan Lebo, will help participants understand  the practical truths found in Proverbs with clarity and passion - uncovering its wise instruction for godly living that glorifies God and leads to blessing for his people. Over the course of 12 weeks, this elective will explore Proverbs by:

  • Asking thoughtful questions about specific verses to spur discussion
  • Showing how each passage unveils the gospel
  • Tying the text in with the whole story of Scripture
  • Illuminating the doctrines taught in each passage
  • Inviting you to discover practical implications
  • Helping you better understand and apply God's Word

The cost for each participant is $8.

Explore the Bible is used by our students (grades 6-12). Grace students have a continuous elective (goes year round) designed just for their unique challengs as teenagers. In the Summer Semester our students will complete a series of lessons through the books of Esther, Ezra, and Nehemiah. Youth leaders, using God's Word and the Explore the Bible curriculum, will lead discussions encouraging students to apply God's Word to everyday life situations.

There is no cost to participate. Due to some remodeling that will be taking place on our facility, the youth elective will take place on the gym stage beginning on June 14.
