Let Me Introduce You To...

Grace's New Worship Pastor

In August of 2014 the Leadership shared with the church body that a search for a worship pastor would take place. September was spent creating a job description and by the first part of October the position was posted for candidates to apply. By the end of October over 60 different people from all across the United States had applied for the job. Three Godly men (Dennis Lambes, Dan Lebo, and Tom Riley) were charged by the Leadership Team to filter through the applicants and create a short list of top candidates. Upon their first discussion it became clear that one person was at the top of each person's list: Jason Cox. It was decided to reach out to him and see if God was wooing him to Grace.

Jason confirmed that God was stirring in him, but he wanted to see Grace and the community for himself. On November 30, Jason and his wife Sarah attended Grace's worship services. After spending a very quick weekend here in our area they sat down with me, Dennis, Dan, and Tom. They asked many questions about Grace, our dreams for worship ministry, and life in Northeast Ohio. Upon their departure, Jason said he would need until the end of December to seek God's will about coming to to be our worship pastor. It took 8 days. On December 9, Jason called me and said it was confirmed to him and his wife that God was calling them to Grace. Below are some quick facts about Jason and his ministry accomplishments.

  • Jason is 33 years old and has been a born-again follower of Jesus Christ since 1990.
  • He and his wife, Sarah, have been married for 8 years. They have three children: Elina (6), Levi (4), and Matai (3).
  • Jason has been serving the Lord in worship ministry since 1997. He was Lincensed to the Ministry in 2003 by First Baptist Church of Burkburnett, TX and Ordained as a Minister of the Gospel in 2006 by Calvary Baptist Church in Vernon, TX.
  • He has an extensive musical background that ranges from solo events, being a part of Christian band, leading choirs, and even singing in a quartet. He is currently finishing a Bachelor's Degree in Christian Ministry with Music Studies at Wayland Baptist University.
  • His ministry as a full-time worship pastor began in 2005 at Calvary Baptist Church (CBC) in Vernon, TX. CBC had an attendance of 300+ people. Jason led the worship services and seasonal cantatas which included directing the choir and overseeing audio/visual technicians. He also gave direction to the children's choirs, Youth Praise Team, Adult Praise Team, and a men's gospel quartet. In the community he delivered Meals-on-Wheels, served on the Vernon Child Well-Fare Board of Trustees, and coordinated several Sr. Adult trips.
  • In 2010, Jason and Sarah felt called to be a part of a church plant in Vancouver, Canada. The downsized their possessions, packed up their young family and moved to a suburb of Vancouver called Pitt Meadows. Starting a church in Pitt Meadows expanded Jason's ministry experience far beyond the music and music groups he was comfortable leading. The Church on the Rock (TCOR), which grew to have an attendance of 100+ people, provided an opportunity for Jason to build a worship team from scratch. He led weekly worship services, began engaging strangers and sharing the love of Christ, and eventually developed iinstrumentalists, vocalists, and audio technicians that became a worship team. Along with building and leading a worship team, he was heavily involved in launching the church website, creating marketing tools to promote the church, negotiating contracts for renting buildings/space for church services, and writing the church constitution and by-laws in accordance with British Colombia's Church Registry. He also started the "Community Unity Project" which was designed to help the Church on the Rock to serve the community in relevant ways.
  • In 2013 God opened another ministry door for Jason. Sagebrush Community Church located in Albuquerque, NM (attendacne 12,000+ people) called Jason to be one of their Campus Worship Pastors. While at Sagebrush, he has led worship for groups ranging from 300 to over 9,000 people. He gave direct oversight to the audio/video technicians, instrumentalists, and vocalists for the services he directed. He met weekly with volunteers to provide encouragement and pastoral counseling in spiritual matters. While at Sagebrush, Jason was exposed to and became proficient in the latest technologies that are being used by churches to reach the lost.
  • The Scripture that provided clarity to God's calling on his life is Psalm 66:1-4 - Shout with joy to God, all the earth! Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious! Say to God, "How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies cringe before you. All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to you, they sing praise to your name." Selah
